Case Study

Waianae Solar

Solar farm helps offset 2.5% of Oahu's daily peak load.

The Scenario

Hawaii is currently the most fossil-fuel-dependent state in the nation, but the state’s Clean Energy Initiative is focused on achieving 100 percent clean energy by 2045. Eurus Energy America worked to get approval to build the solar farm in Waianae and sell the power to Hawaiian Electric Company for approximately 14.5 cents per kilowatt-hour, making it one of the lowest-cost renewable energy projects in the state.

The Solution

The project is built on 198 acres of land on the west side of Oahu. Despite an extremely difficult terrain, REC Solar built the project while meeting a zero import, zero export goal to minimize impact on the local community. The local REC Solar team managed a wide range of contractors to deliver a successful project.
