Case Study

Department of Veteran Affairs

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs increases its renewable electricity consumption.

The Scenario

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has a goal to increase their share of renewable electricity consumption to 30 percent by 2025. Many facilities across the country have available space for solar via parking lots, building rooftops and adjacent land. REC Solar engaged with the VA to identify viable facility locations and develop creative ways to maximize solar system production.

The Solution

Since 2009, REC Solar has completed over 30 MW of design/build grid-tied solar PV projects as both prime and general contractor, as well as teaming with Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Businesses (SDVOSB). These projects include fixed and tracking ground mounts, cantilevered carports, parking canopies, and roof mounts in many states across the country. This work was completed in a wide range of climate zones – hurricanes, deserts, earthquakes, and urban areas.
